About Midland Tree Surgeons

Midland Tree Surgeons Limited was established in 1970 by Managing Director, Robert Kennedy, past Chairman of the Arboricultural Association. The company is located in the Midlands and in 2004 moved from its depot at Draycott-in-the-Clay to new and larger premises at Lancaster Park, Needwood, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.

Over the years, the company has grown to a size where it is able to offer a comprehensive range of tree care solutions throughout the United Kingdom. With the ever evolving field of tree care, Midland Tree Surgeons has kept abreast of current theory and practice and since 1987 have been Approved Contractors of the Arboricultural Association.

We are pleased to undertake jobs of any size and pledge that all customers will receive the same, high level of attention and care. Whilst every effort is made to control hazards, tree work is potentially high risk in its nature, for your ultimate protection we ensure that:

1. All staff are suitably experienced and hold the necessary certificates/ qualifications

2. All risks are fully insured (Certificates available on request) to include:
· Public and Product Liability (5m)
· Employers Liability (£10m)
· Professional Indemnity (£1m)

3. We operate with equipment and machinery of the highest quality and order to maximise reliability

Management Team at Midland Tree Surgeons

Robert Kennedy - Managing Director

Robert founded Midland Tree Surgeons over 35 years ago starting out with two employees, one of whom is Chris Dunn, our present Operations Manager. Throughout his life Robert has had a keen interest in the countryside, particularly trees.

Over the years he has amassed an enormous experience of the tree industry and how it operates. In 1995 he had the honour of being elected Chairman of the Arboricultural Association having served on their Professional committee for several years.

Whilst Chairman, he attended the weeklong annual conference of the International Society of Arboriculture on Hilton Head Island , South Carolina . This experience gave him a valuable insight into International Arboriculture.

He lists one of his highlights as a week's field study visiting some of Scotland's finest tree collections, with the late Alan Mitchell.

Ben Bennett - Consultant

Ben graduated from the University of Central Lancashire , Newton Rigg Campus, with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Forestry in 2000 and holds a Royal Forestry Society Certificate of Arboriculture. Before joining Midland Tree Surgeons, Ben was an Arboricultural Officer for a Midlands Based Authority.

His specialist areas are trees within a planning/development context, and protected tree management. Ben consults on a broad spectrum of tree and woodland related matters for private individuals, professional bodies and local authorities alike and maintains a programme of continuing professional development. Ben's instructions range from large quantity surveys to detailed individual tree reports, including climbing inspections and internal decay mapping procedures. Ben has acted for both individuals and local authorities in the capacity of an expert witness appearing before a Magistrates Court.

Chris Dunn - Operations Manager

Chris joined the company as a tree surgeon from its inception. He gave up climbing in 2000. He then retrained so that he was qualified to take the position as Operations Manager.

He has a vast experience in all Arboricultural matters and oversees the company's PUWER and LOLER requirements. He is the key man in keeping all our surgery equipment in tiptop condition, as well as our fleet of vehicles, stump cutters, woodchippers etc.
