We are experienced in all types of commercial tree surgery works, from formative pruning of young trees to the management of very large mature trees.

Birds, bats and some reptiles and mammals are protected by legislation, meaning that we may need to carry out a wildlife risk assessment before carrying out work to some trees. Our risk assessment will inform our decisions regarding how and when we can carry the tree surgery work out.

Dismantling or Felling Trees

Where a tree is diseased, dead or dying or hazardous in its location, it may be removed in its entirety by either dismantling or straight felling.

Straight felling is carried out from ground level. However, sufficient space is required for the tree to fall to the ground before being cut into smaller pieces for removal from site.

In more confined spaces, a tree must be dismantled by carefully taking it down section by section. Midland Tree Surgeons is experienced in both the use of advanced rigging systems and hydraulic cranes to safely dismantle trees. Often the use of a crane is the safest and most cost effective method of removing a tree.

Thank you very much – a lovely neat job. The yard is cleaner than it was before you arrived. Mrs P, Draycott-in-the-Clay

Deadwood Removal

Deadwood is a valuable wildlife habitat that should be retained within a tree’s crown if at all possible. However, in some cases the deadwood may be at an unacceptable risk of falling with the potential to cause injury or damage to property, in which case it should be carefully removed.

I contacted these guys to strip the deadwood from my lime tree, that was enormous. They were brilliant, thorough, tidy, polite and very professional. I would definitely employ them again. Mr M, Stafford

Formative Pruning

Formative pruning is used to help a young tree develop into a strong, well shaped tree. The structure of the tree can be improved by selective branch removal to ensure strong branch attachments and a good crown form. Using the services of a commercial tree surgery Midlands company will help ensure your commercial site continues to look good.

Crown Lifting

Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches from the canopy of a tree. It is recommended for many reasons, including providing clearance above roads or footpaths, to prevent branches damaging a building or to improve sunlight into a garden. To avoid lack of balance, it is important that the crown of the tree is at least two thirds of the total height of the tree after crown lifting has been carried out.

The two tree surgeons who came were extremely helpful, discussing the work to be undertaken before and during the process. They arrived promptly, worked hard and tidied up after themselves. We are very pleased with the results. Miss H, Derby

Crown thinning

Crown thinning is the removal of a small amount of secondary branches and small live branches from a tree to produce a uniform density of foliage and an evenly spaced branch structure. It is usually carried out on broad leafed species and does not alter the size or shape of the tree. Crown thinning can be used to allow more light to pass through the tree, reduce wind resistance or to reduce the weight of heavy branches. It is useful in decreasing the potential for storm damage.

Pleasant workers, gave good advice and were extremely safe and tidy. Excellent job. Dr M, Walsall

Crown Reduction

Crown reduction results in a reduced volume and size of a tree’s crown. This is achieved by pruning back branches to suitably selected side branches, while retaining the natural shape of the tree as far as possible. It is useful for maintaining large trees in confined spaces, reducing stress on a weakened main stem or extending the life of a tree that would otherwise need removing.

I am simply delighted with the tree surgery performed at my property. The meticulous attention to detail has been much appreciated, along with the most helpful and willing attitude by all, coupled with the sheer hard work at all times. I am now considering the next job. Mrs B, Anslow

Crown Restoration

Crown restoration is used on valuable old trees that have lost their natural form and structure through storm damage, topping, dieback or disease. The purpose of the operation is to build a new crown of healthy, stable main branches by cutting damaged or dead branches to healthy wood. Our commercial tree surgery Midlands based professionals are here to help.

Pollarding

Pollarding is a technique whereby the majority of the crown of a tree is removed. It is used where a tree is too large for its location or where defects make the tree unstable. Pollarding results in vigorous regrowth, which should be pruned back to the same point every one to three years. Pollard heads are formed at the end of all branches. Pollarding must be started when trees are young.
