Midland Tree Surgeons operate five self propelled stump grinding units allowing for stumps of all sizes and situations to be removed. The smallest machine can be carried through an average domestic doorway whilst the medium and larger machines, two of which run on tracks allowing greater access to difficult terrain need a minimum of 3 ft access. These tough machines physically grind the stump and major roots beneath the ground to a specified depth. This can be useful in limiting the spread of certain diseases and can allow a replacement tree to be planted in the same position. The removal of stumps is also required if an area of hard surfacing is to be laid where a tree once stood.
